This information was presented at a press conference announcing the results of the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union for the 2026-2031 term, held on the afternoon of June 8.
According to the Congress Resolution, this is one of 11 specific targets approved as a basis for assessing the effectiveness of the Union’s activities in the new term. Along with the goal that 70% of members will be equipped with digital knowledge and skills, the Congress also aims for over 95% of member households to have correct knowledge and practice regarding food safety. Additionally, digital transformation and enhancing digital skills for farmers have been identified as one of the four breakthrough tasks for the entire term.
Mr. Luong Quoc Doan, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, stated that farmers are one of the groups facing the most difficulties in the digital transformation process due to limited skills and access to technology. The Union has implemented a program to support digital skills for farmers for many years, including activities in collaboration with technology companies to guide people in using smartphones and digital platforms.

“Currently, nearly 100% of farmers use smartphones, but the issue is how to help them utilize the smart features of their devices for production and business. Through surveys, many people have smartphones but mainly use them for entertainment and social media, not yet leveraging digital technology to search for technical information, market data, or input materials,” Mr. Doan said.
According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, local unions are tasked with directly guiding members from the most basic skills, such as searching for information on the Internet, accessing production technical knowledge, exploring the market, to using digital applications that serve agricultural economic activities.
One of the platforms implemented by the Union is the Vietnamese Farmers application. After more than two years of operation, the application has attracted approximately 4.3 million members. In the future, the Union will improve the quality of training so that farmers can utilize digital services, digital transactions, and production utilities on the platform.

Mr. Doan also mentioned that the Union is researching the establishment of “digital farmer” groups at the grassroots level to support members in accessing technology, while also integrating guidance on using digital platforms into the implementation of the Union’s programs and projects.
