Widespread Issues with Facebook and Messenger
At approximately 8:50 PM, Hai Yen (Hanoi) opened the Facebook app only to find that all content on her personal page had vanished. Instead of displaying posts, a friends list, or account information, the app only showed her profile and cover photos along with the message: “An error has occurred. Please check your connection and try again.”
When she opened Messenger, she was greeted with the message “Please ensure you have permission for this app,” while the conversation list failed to load fully, and sending and receiving messages was intermittent.
“I thought my account was hacked or there was an internet issue, but many other apps were functioning normally,” she said.
Mrs. Le Niem (Hanoi) also reported that the phones of family members simultaneously faced issues with content not loading. “Everyone was continuously calling each other to see if their accounts were lost due to fears of hacking,” she recounted.

Reports from various users indicated that the issue appeared on both the web version and mobile app. When accessing Facebook, some accounts only displayed the Facebook logo or a blank interface, while the News Feed, notification list, and posts could not load.
On mobile devices, many accounts only showed profile pictures, cover photos, and system error messages. Meanwhile, on computers, some users reported that the platform displayed either the logo or a white interface without loading any content. Messages were sent slowly, status indicators for sent messages were absent, chat histories could not load, or unusual error messages appeared.
This situation affected major Meta products in Vietnam, including Facebook, Messenger, Threads, and Instagram.
According to reports from the Vietnamese version of the online outage tracking site DownDetector, the number of Facebook error reports surged dramatically around 8:45 PM, exceeding 2,000 reports within minutes. Meanwhile, the international version of this tool saw an unusual increase in reports worldwide, surpassing 120,000.

The number of Facebook error reports reached over 120,000 globally at 8:46 PM.

Over 2,000 Facebook error reports at 8:44 PM on June 12.
Similar to previous outages, users quickly turned to other platforms to investigate the cause. On social media platform X, keywords related to Facebook and Messenger were prevalent, with thousands of posts inquiring about the service’s access issues.
“We are aware that people are currently having trouble accessing services. We are working hard to resolve this,” stated Andy Stone, Meta’s Communications Director, on X at 9:11 PM.
By nearly 9:30 PM, many users began to regain access to Facebook and Messenger. By midnight on June 13, there were almost no more error reports related to Meta’s platforms.
Previously, on March 5, 2024, Meta also experienced a global outage when many Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Threads, and Horizon Worlds accounts were unexpectedly logged out while users were active on their computers and phones. This situation lasted about two hours, and Meta stated it was a technical error, denying any hacking incident.
In April, many users encountered difficulties with synchronizing chat histories on Messenger. At the end of May, Meta’s scanning system faced a technical error, leading to numerous Instagram accounts being locked, forcing many content creators and online businesses to redirect customers to other platforms. Meta subsequently issued an apology.
