By examining the source code of iOS 27, the operating system for iPhones recently announced at the WWDC event on June 8, developer M1Astra discovered code containing phrases such as foldState, angleDegrees, mechanicalAngleDegrees, and isanglevalid.
Experts analyze that the term foldState refers to the system recognizing whether the device is closed or open. The angle parameters indicate that the hinge mechanism of the new iPhone allows for flexible stopping at various angles, rather than being fixed in a fully closed or open state. This means that Apple will equip a feature similar to Flex Mode on the Galaxy Z Fold, allowing the device to be slightly folded to rest on a table like a mini laptop, with half of the screen displaying content and the lower half functioning as a virtual keyboard or controller.
Additionally, Bloomberg has pointed out several new features in iOS 27 designed for foldable devices. The widget system can now occupy the entire screen space of a regular iPhone, equivalent to half the display area when the foldable iPhone is opened. The “iPhone Mirroring” feature has also been upgraded to the size of an iPad, suitable for the larger screen ratio inside the foldable iPhone.
